„Downhillers for Haiti“
At this year’s Hahnenkamm Downhill in Kitzbühel, athletes donated their start numbers to be auctioned on eBay for the benefit of the earthquake victims in Haiti. The auction was an incredible success. The racers will donate the proceeds to the Austrian Red Cross to aid Haiti at the end of the World Cup season.
After the World Cup finale downhill race in Garmisch (start 9:15 hrs) the world’s best downhiller will present a check with the auction proceeds of 56,193.05 Euros to the public. This sum of money will then be forwarded to the Austrian Red Cross.
Special care has been taken to ensure that the entire proceeds are passed on to the Haiti charity campaign. The traders, 123Boerse.com, have agreed to pay all administration costs, eBay has waived their auction fee and the Kitzbühel Ski Club will cover the PayPal charge. As a result, the entire proceeds of 56,193.05 Euros can be passed on.
Various Hahnenkamm race partners were so impressed by this charity campaign that they donated an additional 45.000 Euros. The winner of the Hahnenkamm Super-G and Hahnenkamm Downhill, Didier Cuche from Switzlerland, personally added another 20,000 Euros, meaning that an impressive sum of 65,000 Euros could be added to the proceeds.
The Red Cross will therefore receive a total sum of 121,193.05 Euros, directly resulting from the charity campaign, „Downhillers for Haiti“.
